Everyone is expecting me to trip up at some point, but they’ve been shocked that I haven’t and I’m just amazed to be honest because now when I walk past or behind a smoker the smell is just repulsive to me.

 

Three days after the treatment I had a moment of revelation where I knew I was free, that’s when I walked past the smoking corner at work, outside my building. I just looked at them and I thought, what a sad bunch of people and I knew at that point it was all over.

 

It was as though I’d had an illness – like a cancer victim who’s tried everything and then a doctor comes along, waved a healing want and they were cured. Right now I feel like someone has given me a present, like the best present you could get.”

Can helping staff stop smoking help my business?

 

Did you know that £10 million a day is lost to cigarette breaks? – How could you use that time in terms of increased profitability? Daryl Hine (see below) reports that he’s saved an hour a day that he can now use more profitably.

 

If you want to stop smoking or learn how to encourage someone to quit smoking it's salutary to realise that a smoker may take nine breaks of ten minutes each during the working day – around five hours to one day per week spent on smoking. Now, is this good for business?

 

Good employers may offer their staff help if they want to give up smoking. Seven out of ten smokers say they want to give up, and employers who help them do so are likely to find a healthier, fitter workforce, with the benefit of fewer days lost through sickness.
